FOCUS

God's Sovereignty

Foundations of the Kingdom

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

The necessary beginning point in studying the theme of "the kingdom of God" is the Bible's opening verse. Here we meet the Sovereign of all the Universe, whose realm, reign, and regency are described at the onset.

  1. His realm (or scope of His rule) is transcendent; that is, not only does it include the entire physical universe, but it exceeds it. He existed before all creation. He expands beyond it, and by virtue of having begotten it, He encompasses all that it is.
  2. His reign (or the power by which He rules) is exercised by His will, His word, and His works. By His own will He creatively decides and designs; by His own word He speaks creation into being; and by His own works His Spirit displays His unlimited power.
  3. His regency (or authority to rule) is His preexistence and holiness. He there before creation "in the beginning." Thus, as its creator He deserves to be potentate. His benevolent intent in vreating things "good" reveals His holy nature (that is, complete and perfect), and thus His moral right to be creation's King. All kingdom power and authority  flow from HIm.

In Context

Hebrews 4:12-13 (NKJV)

The Word Discovers Our Condition

11) Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

12) For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

13) And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT CARE

Matthew 6:25-34 (NKJV)

Do Not Worry

25) “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

26) Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

27) Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

28) “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;

29) and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

30) Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

31) “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

32) For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

33) But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

34) Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble

TRUTH IN ACTION

TRUTH:

The Walk of Faith

The walk of faith is a glorious process of becoming increasingly free in Christ. By fatih in Jesus' resurrection, we become free from the fear of death. Through faith in Jesus as our High Priest, we know that we have one who understands our temptations and can help us as we become free from sin. By faith in Jesus' holiness in our lives, we can be free to boldly enter God's presence with without hesitation. Continue to put your faiht in Jesus daily. Know that you can entirely trust Him who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

ACTION:

WELCOME the conviction of the Holy Spirit through God's Word. UNDERSTAND that conviction of sin an expression of God's mercy. It leads to forgiveness, which leads to freedom.

upon Jesus, for He cares for me

1 Peter 5:5-7

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

The Message of the Kingdom

The first call of the kingdom is to repentance. The implications of biblical repentance are threefold:

  1.  Renucitation and Reversal
  2. Submission and Teachability
  3. Continual Shapeability

There is no birth into the kingdom without hearing the call to salvation, renoucing one's sin, and turning from sin toward Christ the Savior (Acts 3:19).

There is no growth in the kingdom without obedience to Jesus' commandments and childlike reponsiveness as a disciple of Jesus, yielding to the teaching of God's Word (James 1:21-25).

There is no lifelong increase of fruit as a citzen of the kingdom without a willingness to accept the Holy Spirit's correction and guidance (Ephesians 4:30)

If you would like to know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, say and mean the simple prayer below and you will be saved.

Lord Jesus,

I know that I am a sinner. I have broken Your commandments and fallen short of Your standards. Right now I turn from that sin and ask You to come into my life. Be my Lord, Savior, friend, and God. I put my faith in Jesus Christ, and in Him alone, to save me from my sins. Thank You for loving me and calling me. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
